Mission Statement:
The goal of this fund is two fold:
-
Raise awareness about the need for universal dyslexia screening for all K-5 students in public schools.
-
Raise money to help fund private tutoring for dyslexic children that otherwise may not receive the intensive reading therapy they need. Appropriate tutoring often allows for successful reintegration back into public school.
Where will the donations end up?
Following my graduation from high school, the money raised will be evenly split between:
-
The Dyslexia Tutoring Program based in Baltimore MD and
-
North Bridge Academy Student Success Fund in Mill Valley CA.

How is the money being raised?
The fund was started using two sources of income.
-
A private stringing business, started when I was 11 and run out of a shed in my backyard.
-
Working weekend and holiday shifts at Sling It, Lacrosse, a store in San Rafael, CA that was able to hire me once I turned 14.
-
All private donations and additional fund raising will be added to the earnings through Donor Box and donated at the end of my high school career.
I am a rising Senior at Redwood High School in Larkspur CA. I was introduced to the game of lacrosse at age 9. Playing lacrosse has remained my biggest passion, but the art of stringing sticks has become its own creative endeavor. Stringing lacrosse heads — a job that most players outsource — quickly became a favorite hobby. While reading a book took unusual amounts of focus and effort, taking an unstrung head and forming it into a 3D shape, understanding how the form affected the function, was instinctive and easily learned. This is because visual-spatial learners prefer to store and access information in 3D images rather than words.
